A Few Different Dating Ideas for Fit People

When it comes to finding a perfect partner, what makes a date work is having common ground so that you can relate to one another. Nobody likes awkward silences and unless you’re the odd pair that are comfortable being quiet around each other (usually a good sign), then it’s good to have topics of interest.

Having said this, not everyone needs to have the exact same interests, or even a large number of matching interests. After all, it should have been an initial chemistry and/or physical attraction that led to the date in the first place. Even having opposing interests and or views on the world can lead to stimulating conversion, if you both decide to leave your egos at the door and be open minded. We live in a world where everyone is so opinionated and there seems to be a live and let die attitude going around. By relaxing and allowing your mind to see things from difference perspectives, you’ll be able to live a richer and fuller life.

Anyway, getting back on track. If you and your date are relatively fit then it makes sense doing something a little different. While a coffee or dinner and a movie seems the quintessential go to dating options, why not take advantage of your adventurous side and try out these dating ideas.

Go Hiking

Depending on where you live in the world it could be a great idea to go hiking. This provides an opportunity to focus on the terrain in moments of silence, or allow random topics to come up in conversation while you walk. If you’re based in North America like me then a few great options include the Columbia River Gorge in Washington and Oregon; Glacier National Park in Montana; Appalachian Trail on the East Coast (of course this is a long trail but you have options to go on small hikes); Pisgah National Forest in Brevard, North Carolina and Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. There are of course hundreds of other trails and finding one near to you shouldn’t be a problem, even if you live in the city.

Rock Climbing

If you consider yourself fit, but have never tried rock climbing then you should really consider it. It’s a fun first date option, whether you choose an indoor rock climbing center or an outdoor attraction near to you. Just make sure that you use a well-known place with a knowledgeable guide who can keep it safe. You may be surprised how taxing rock climbing can be, especially on your fingers, hands and forearms. However, it can lead to a sense of accomplishment for both of you – especially if you’re both learning a new skill at the same time.

Kayaking or Canoeing

If you live near a river or large body of water (whether you’re on the coast or near a lake), then a half day of kayaking or canoeing is a great way to get to know someone while enjoying fresh air. It’s a known fact that being around water makes us calmer which can lead to a relaxed atmosphere and an easy way to talk about various topics as you paddle the day away.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Surfing

Following on from the last point, SUP or surfing are super fun options, and especially if you’ve never tried either before. Of course, if neither of you have experience then stand up paddle boarding is arguably much easier to get the hang of than surfing, but if one of you does have experience, it could be another way to bond.

Horseback Riding

This is often a hit or miss with some people, as there are many people who are afraid of horses. However, whether you’re experienced or not there are a lot of horse trail activities around the States (and the world for that matter) where it’s possible to go at your own pace. I once went on a walking trial in New Zealand where they filmed part of the Lord of the Rings films. While I wasn’t overly experienced with horses, they were well trained and I felt comfortable the whole time. It was an experience I look back on fondly.

These are just a few “think outside the box” options when it comes to a first date. You could do anything from indoor skydiving, paintballing, scuba diving, or even good old fashioned ice skating. By having a fun activity to do, you’ll be able to worry less about thinking of something to say and discover each other in a whole new light. Of course, there is no guarantee you’ll hit it off, but doing something “different” is a good way to make an impression that can lead to a more intimate second date – where you can even discuss how much fun you had on the first date.

Preparing Yourself to Date a Bodybuilder

Conversely if you’re not that into the gym – whether you are fit or not – dating a bodybuilder can be a little different than dating your average Joe. While guys may say that there are high maintenance women, I think it’s fair to say that there are high maintenance guys, which accounts for most serious bodybuilders. If you’re dating, or starting to get serious with a bodybuilder, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Bodybuilders Love Food

Actually, this might not be entirely correct. However, they need food and a lot of it. When bodybuilding it becomes important to count every calorie and maintain a constant supply of macro nutrients to ensure the body is getting enough fuel – whether that’s to build muscle or cut fat while maintaining muscle – all while ensuring there is enough energy for hardcore workout sessions. However, don’t get caught out on worrying about matching food-wise as bodybuilders are used to making their own meals and eating at their own times. It’s still possible to sync up for romantic breakfasts, brunches, lunches and dinners though!

Enjoy a Session with them Now and Then

While it may look like all the guys at the gym buy testosterone online or all the women buy winstrol, this nearly almost always isn’t the case. They may look intimidating, but the gym is one of the few places where people are actually great at encouraging each other and maintaining a friendly and supportive environment. It doesn’t matter if you can’t squat or bench that much, but by joining your new found partner at the gym you may learn a lot more about him than you would otherwise. Especially when you see him in his natural element.

Don’t Get Angry about Gym Time

Just like when it comes to the 7+ meals a day, it’s best not to expect a guy (or girl for that matter) to skip gym sessions for various occasions. This is especially true if they are professionals or are aspiring to compete at championship events. Rather, learn to work around his gym schedule. While their routines will change periodically depending on their goals and if it’s time bust a plateau, most bodybuilders are quite regimental in their routines so it’s easy to figure out some downtime.

Don’t Expect to Get Drunk too Often

Anything that can hurt the progress of a bodybuilder becomes taboo. This will include everything from calorie rich cakes and donuts, to lattes and beer. In addition, alcohol is known to seriously hamper recovery and progress which is why most bodybuilders rarely get drunk. If you’re dating a bodybuilder, don’t get upset if they turn down dessert or a trip to the bar.

There’s a Difference between Narcissism and Monitoring Progress

Bodybuilders are constantly looking at themselves in the mirror. In particular they want to gauge their progress, check for muscle imbalances and look for areas that need improvement. This is part of the game and isn’t necessarily about vanity. They may also need to practice poses for an upcoming competition.

Don’t Provide an Ultimatum

If at the end of the day, your bodybuilding boyfriend is spending too much time at the gym and you give them an ultimatum – me or the gym; you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. As with any relationship, you shouldn’t want to change a person just like you wouldn’t want them to try and change you. If you really like this person then maybe step up your fitness game so you can spend more time together at the gym, even if you’re doing your thing while he is doing his. In fact, just like with the earlier point about the gym being a good supportive atmosphere, it’s great for partners to provide support to bodybuilders, especially for upcoming goals or competitions.

Don’t be Jealous

Lastly, don’t be jealous. The gym is full of good looking people, or at least people with good looking bodies. Don’t worry about your partner being unfaithful just because he or (in the opposite scenario and it does happen) she is surrounded by overly friendly fit people. At the end of the day, if he comes home to you then you have nothing to worry about. Added to that, as with any relationship while work or in this case gym might be a way of life, when the relationship gets serious, you should always be a priority.
